Functional Capacity Evaluations

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is an intensive evaluation that focuses on major physical tolerance abilities related to muscluloskeletal strength, endurance, speed, and flexibility.

There are four common applications of FCE's:

Baseline Evaluations - addresses the full rangle of physical tolerances.

Job Specific - addresses physical tolerances in comparison to the task demands of te target job.

Medical / Legal - addresses residual physical tolerances, loss of ability, and potential for rehabilitation in preperation of determination of loss of earning capacity and future costs of care

Pre-placement post-offer screenings

An FCE Can Address the Following:

- Did the client provide full physical effort during the testing?

- Does the client demonstrate sufficient consistency of effort
to benefit from rehabilitation at this time?

- What are the client's physical work tolerances?

- Is the client capable of performing his or her preinjury job? If not,
what are his/her physical abilities?

- Can the client return to work full-time? If not, how many hours?

- What is the cliient's upper extremity strength and dexterity?

- What is the client's current tolerance for lifting?

- What are the clients baseline abilities?

- Are the client's subjective reports reliable?

- What are the client's physical abilities and limitations?

- Are there any assisstive/ergonomic aids that would significantly improve the clients vocational ability?
